You know how when you have a kid and he's throwing up all over the place, he doesn't even have to tell you he's sick, you just know? Well, Dolce didn't have to say anything this afternoon--one glance at her, and I just knew:

Dolce, feeling F-A-T and sad.

She's been playing outside more and is still dieting (a bit harder during the holidays!), but since doctors recommend losing no more than 2 pounds per week it'll be a while before Dolce is satisfied with her body.

So I dressed her up in a new pink jacket--pink is her favorite color--as a little self-esteem boost.

Her jacket is still a bit snug, and when I saw her lick her lips, I knew she was picturing her F-A-T rolls :( So I took her across town for a playdate. Because one of the fundamental truths of life is. . .

THE QUICKEST WAY TO FEEL BETTER ABOUT YOURSELF IS TO STAND NEXT TO SOMEONE WHO IS FATTER AND NOT AS CUTE.

A confident Dolce, center-front and smiling and feeling skinny in comparison to fat and easily forgettable Pookie.

Day One.

Dolce is so much happier when she is thin, and so today we began the serious restricting, with meals being reduced from 1 cup to 1/3 cup. Here is Dolce's struggle at dinner:

Food scares her. She is thinking kibble = F-A-T

She approaches her food bowl with trepidation.

Finally, after a bit of coaxing, she eats tentatively. Please don't look at the fat covering her ribs; it's an unflattering angle.

The sensation of food in her belly makes Dolce feel out-of-control and shameful.

It's a good start though--a little bit of food is necessary, but try telling a dog that, LOL. We'll just hang in there, watching our Thinspiration, and pretty soon Dolce will look like the dogs in the slide show at the top of the page! :)

Truth hurts.

Dolce has put on weight this winter, and it is all my fault for not exercising her enough. Poor thing is so depressed; she mopes around and looks at her food bowl with disdain. Dogs are very expressive creatures, and it's obvious she knows that she's gained. She fit perfectly into this winter bed last year, and now look at her:

Even with her new slimming outfit on, fat spills over the edges.

Dolce, trying to squeeze into her bed, hoping no one will notice how B-I-G she's allowed herself to become.

Giving up and hating herself.
